Exarchia is a neighborhood in Athens very close to Kolonaki. It is being known as the home of Anarchists, intellectuals and being broadcasted in a lot of videos online in the past. It is actually a very interesting area, from a quick glance if you google it you will see the area in a lot of news and getting a lot of attention from people asking if it is safe or not to be there
so I would like to answer that question. Is it safe for you to stay there? Exarchia is much different than it is used to be, it is one of the destination points of a lot of people going out with friends with a lot of interesting bars, coffee shops, and events taking place. It is safe for you to stay there but you will still need to be cautious.
Why Exarchia? Because of the vibe of the neighborhood, very unique compared to other neighborhoods and definitely much cheaper. In terms of location, it is very close to attractions, walking distance to a lot of interesting bars and restaurants.
What is around? there are a lot of things around that area, one of the oldest summer cinemas called “Vox”, the National Archaeological Museum of Athens(you can find more about Archaeological Museum here), great and old neoclassical buildings and last but not least the amazing street art graffiti’s that are surrounding Exarchia.
